Conover's relatively young housing inventory creates distinct opportunities for custom cabinetry that differ from neighboring cities:
Rock Barn & Executive Homes (1990s–Present)
The Rock Barn area represents Conover's high end — large homes on generous lots, many with golf course or wooded views. These houses were built with decent materials for their era, but kitchens from the 1990s and early 2000s are now hitting the 20–30 year mark. Honey-oak cabinets, laminate counters, and dated hardware are the norm. We replace these with premium hardwoods (walnut, cherry, quartersawn oak), soft-close hardware, and finishes that transform a dated kitchen into the showpiece these homes deserve.
1980s–2000s Subdivisions
The bulk of Conover's housing was built during this period — neighborhoods off Rock Barn Road, Fairgrove Church Road, and County Home Road. These homes typically have 10x12 to 12x14 kitchens with builder-grade oak cabinets, often with raised-panel doors that were ubiquitous in the era. The cabinet boxes are usually still solid (plywood was more common then), making these excellent candidates for refacing — or for full replacement if the layout needs updating.
New Construction (2010s–2020s)
Conover continues to grow, particularly along the NC-16 corridor and in developments near the Conover Station area. New-build homes in Conover typically come with the builder's standard cabinet package — often the cheapest option that looks presentable in the model home. Savvy buyers are increasingly opting out of builder cabinets and hiring us directly, getting custom solid-wood cabinets for roughly the same cost as the builder's "upgrade" package — with dramatically better quality.
Older Downtown & Rural Properties
Conover wasn't always a suburb. The area around downtown Conover and the older farmhouse properties that predated the development boom have their own character. These homes — some dating to the early 1900s — have the same challenges as older Hickory and Newton homes: non-standard dimensions, smaller rooms, and the need for cabinets that respect the home's original era.
